In 2015, the Einstein Noah Restaurant Group and Caribou Coffee merged.  Rather than absorbing either brand into the other, they decided to maintain each, yet operate as one organization; the organization nearly doubled in size, with over 11,000 employees total.  Also as part of the merger, a new co-brand featuring both concepts in the same location was created.

These decisions resulted in some unusual challenges and opportunities for the learning and development and communication teams.  The distinct culture of each organization had played a vital part each of their successes, so the challenge was how to merge operational and process training under one umbrella and create a new unique organizational culture while still maintaining the strong cultural foundations of each brand.

We are proud of this story and chose to partner with Einstein & Caribou to present this case study in a webinar entitled Driving Cultural Change with Your LMS  through The eLearning Guild.  We want to thank everyone who attended and provide both a recording of the webinar and presentation slides for anyone who wasn’t able to make the webinar.  Click here to download the presentation slides.

Do you have a story about moving the cultural needle in L&D? We’d love to hear your story – send a note to or hit us up on your favorite social network.

As a companion piece to the webinar presentation, we’re excited to present this short interview with Krista Swenson, Director Training and Development, Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, Inc. This past October at our 3rd annual Wisetail user conference – Apex3 – we sat down with Krista to talk about her views on culture, Learning & Development, building a team, and Wisetail.
